Wheels & Tires Buying Guide
Tire size is the decision that quietly reshapes the rest of your build. Eagles 4x4 Offroad in Dasmariñas, Cavite and Metro Manila fits and balances off-road wheels and tires on Hilux, Ranger, Navara, Montero Sport and Strada. Get the size, offset and load rating right and the truck drives well loaded and empty. Get them wrong and you're chasing rubbing, uneven wear and a speedometer that lies to you.
All-terrain or mud-terrain:
- All-terrain (A/T): the daily-driver choice. Quiet on highway, predictable in rain, handles gravel and light trail. Right for most Philippine pickups that see mostly road use
- Mud-terrain (M/T): aggressive tread that clears mud and bites on loose ground. Louder on highway, wears faster on pavement, longer braking distances in the wet
- Hybrid / rugged-terrain: a middle ground, more capable than A/T, quieter than M/T
If you drive more pavement than trail, an all-terrain will serve you better than the tire you want to be seen on.
Sizing and fitment:
Three numbers decide whether a tire fits your truck:
- Diameter: how tall the tire is. 33s fit most mildly lifted pickups, 35s need a suspension lift, 37s need a taller lift plus trimming
- Width: wider isn't automatically better. Too wide and you'll rub the control arms at full lock
- Offset: how far the wheel sits in or out from the hub. Aggressive negative offset pushes the tire outward, it looks good, but it loads your wheel bearings harder and throws mud down the side of the truck
Eagles 4x4 Offroad will tell you what actually clears on your specific truck before you buy, not after.
Load rating and pressure:
An off-road tire carrying a loaded truck needs the right load index, not just the right look. Under-rated tires run hot, wear unevenly and fail when you can least afford it. We will set correct cold pressures for your truck's weight, an off-road tire at the pressure printed on a road-car placard rides badly and wears in the middle.
Computer wheel balancing:
Every wheel and tire fitted at Eagles 4x4 Offroad is computer balanced. Large off-road tires carry more mass further from the hub, so a small imbalance becomes a noticeable vibration at highway speed and that vibration works its way into your wheel bearings and steering components over time.
What bigger tires change:
Going up in tire size affects more than clearance:
- Speedometer and odometer read low, because the tire covers more ground per revolution
- Effective gearing drops, so the truck feels slower and works harder on hills
- Braking distance increases with the extra rotating mass
- Alignment should be reset after any significant size change
- Fuel consumption rises, especially with mud-terrains
We will tell you which of these will actually bother you on your truck before you commit to a size.
Fits these vehicles:
Eagles 4x4 Offroad fits wheels and tires to Hilux, Ranger, Navara, Montero Sport, Strada, D-Max, Mu-X, Fortuner and similar pickups and SUVs. Message your nearest branch with your model, year, and current lift setup and we'll confirm what size clears.
How long we keep your truck:
A standard wheel and tire fit takes about 2 hours at Eagles 4x4 Offroad, including mounting and computer balancing. If trimming or fender work is needed to clear the size you want, it runs longer and we tell you first.
What changes the price:
Wheel and tire fitting at Eagles 4x4 Offroad starts at ₱2,000. What moves that number:
- How many wheels, and whether you're supplying the tires
- Tire size, larger off-road tires take more time to mount and balance
- Whether the old tires need disposal
- Trimming or fender work to clear an oversized fitment
- TPMS sensor transfer or replacement, if your truck has it
FAQs
What size tires can I fit on my truck without a lift?
EN: Most stock Philippine pickups clear up to 31 or 32-inch tires without rubbing, while 33s usually need at least a leveling kit or a small lift.
All-terrain or mud-terrain, which should I get?
EN: Choose all-terrain if you drive mostly on paved roads and want quiet, predictable handling, and mud-terrain only if you're regularly in deep mud or loose ground.
Will bigger tires mess up my speedometer?
EN: Yes, larger tires make your speedometer and odometer read lower than your actual speed and distance, and this can be corrected with a recalibration. Puwede itong i-recalibrate.
Do I need an alignment after new tires?
EN: Yes, especially if you changed tire size or offset, alignment keeps the new tires wearing evenly and the truck tracking straight.
What is wheel offset and does it matter?
EN: Offset is how far the wheel sits in or out from the hub, aggressive negative offset pushes tires outward for a wider stance but puts more load on your wheel bearings.
